UKCP presented a three-section low-floor tram 71-639 “Castor”
Three-car low-floor 71-639 Kastor tram presented by UKCP On March 19, Chelyabinsk, Russia, saw the previously announced four-door tram by the Ust-Katav Car-building Plant (UKCP). The vehicle has been tested there since February. The cost of the new tram is one of its important benefits. It amounted to RUR 155 mln ($1.68 mln USD) in its basic configuration, and that is 20% below the market value, according to UKCP. The trams can also boast a length of 25.8 m, which is the shortest among other three-car trams manufactured in Russia. Other key advantages include two driver’s cabs, an increased autonomous run of up to 30 km, and the ability to negotiate curves of 14 m. With a rated capacity of 187 passengers, the tram has 64 standard seats and one for disabled persons. The traction is provided by six asynchronous motors, 62 kW each.
