A special engineering bureau for designing trams was founded at the factory. It developed about 20 tram car models.

The car 71-605 (КТМ-5) was developed. It has been manufactured in the amount of almost 15 000 items due to which it holds the Guinness record.

The UKCP factory increased its manufacturing capacity up to 750 trams a year, which was multi-fold bigger than the total capacity of all other tram factories in the USSR.

UKCP presented a three-section six-axle tramcar model 71-639 "Castor" in Chelyabinsk. In May, this model was demonstrated to Evgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region and Alexey Orlov, Head of Ekaterinburg. The representatives of the Region took a test ride on the new tramway and were able to evaluate the maneuverability and comfort of the tram in a real urban environment.
