March 19, 2024, Chelyabinsk. - Ust-Katavsky Carriage Works, an enterprise of Roscosmos State Corporation, presented a three-section six-axle tramcar model 71-639 "Castor" in Chelyabinsk. The presentation was attended by representatives of the Chelyabinsk regional administration, heads of municipal electric transportation companies from Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk, St. Petersburg, Novokuznetsk, Yekaterinburg, equipment and components suppliers. The participants of the event took a ride on the new streetcar, which is now in Chelyabinsk for testing in real urban conditions.
During the presentation of the new UKCP tramcar, industry professionals discussed the current state and development of the tramcar market in Russia, technical characteristics and operating conditions of the Castor car, new approaches to the organization of service maintenance of UKCP tramcars, and the applicability of the component base.

"The development and release of a new three-section tramcar model is caused by the ever-increasing need of the market for renewal of rolling stock
and acquisition of modern streetcars of large capacity, which financially can be affordable to the regions," said Roman Novikov, General Director of UKCP .

"Today Chelyabinsk is one of the leaders in the pace of development and renewal of rail transportation in the country. Judge for yourself, for 3 years the city has received 141 new streetcars from UKCP , and in 2024 under the already signed contracts 60 more UKCP  cars will be delivered. A modern streetcar is not only comfort (low-floor, climate control, uniform livery and much more), but also a fast way to travel around the city. Which is made possible by a comprehensive regional project to repair and strip the tracks, renovate streetcar stops, and improve crossings.
New three-section streetcars, an example of which we were able to see today and even ride, solve the main problem of cities - traffic congestion. With the beginning of the transport reform, thanks to the ability of the UKCP cars to operate on CME, we have already started to revive streetcar couplings. The next logical step is transition to full-fledged multi-section cars. Which will certainly become possible within the framework of the ongoing Metrotramway project" - emphasized Alexander Egorov, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transportation of the Chelyabinsk Region.

Streetcar model 71-639 "Castor" is equipped with all necessary functions for the organization of comfortable and safe transportation of passengers, including immobile citizens, has a number of unique characteristics.
The main advantages of the car:
- The largest number of seating places among streetcars of similar class on the Russian market - 64 seats plus 1 seat for passengers with low mobility. This provides safety during passenger transportation and makes the streetcar 71-639 "Castor" irreplaceable on long routes;
- The shortest car in its class - a little more than 25 m - is more convenient in maneuvering, when arranging on the fan and in the depot, at the same time the passenger flow during boarding and alighting remains high due to the optimal layout of door openings;
- Application of technological solutions allows the streetcar to operate on routes with turning radii of 14 meters;
- The streetcar can be operated without reconstructing the boarding platforms due to the length of the car;
- Ideal model for main routes. The design of the car implies the car movement at higher speeds (up to 90 km/h);
- It is possible to realize the car in two-cabin version (shuttle version) and option of increased autonomous travel (up to 30 km).
Streetcar 71-639 "Castor" offers all necessary options for passenger comfort, illumination in the dark, door and passenger compartment opening buttons, external contour illumination, futuristic design, smooth running, connectors for charging gadgets. UKCP also offers customers individual tramcar design - branding that takes into account the tasks, specifics of the existing rail infrastructure and preferences of each customer.
