The Roscosmos State Corporation's enterprise presents the first model from the family of three-section carriages with a 100% low floor level - "Castor".

JSC "UKCP" (an enterprise of the State Space Corporation "Roscosmos") is promoting the popularization of space through the names of trams after stars in our galaxy for the first time. The enterprise aims not only to use star names in tram models, highlighting the city's uniqueness through the region code but also to draw attention to outer space.

The Gemini constellation is located in the northern celestial hemisphere and represents the twins Castor and Pollux. Pollux is the beta of Gemini and the brightest star in the constellation. Castor is a binary star, being the alpha of the constellation and possessing an apparent magnitude. The star's age is determined to be about 370 million years, with a distance from the Sun of approximately 50 light-years.

The tramcar model 71-639 "Castor" is a fully low-floor three-section six-axle four-door tramcar. It is specially designed for operation in several Russian cities in the basic version, equipped with all necessary functions for organizing comfortable and safe passenger transportation, including those with limited mobility. The tram has a number of unique characteristics.

Key advantages:

·         The main advantage of the tram is its price. Currently, it offers the most competitive price in the market for a three-section tram in its class - up to 155 million rubles in the basic configuration.
·         The highest number of seats among trams of similar class in the Russian market - 64 seats plus 1 seat for passengers with limited mobility. This ensures safety during passenger transport and makes the 71-639 "Castor" tram indispensable on long routes.
·         The shortest carriage in its class - just over 25 meters - more convenient for maneuvering, placement on a fan at the depot, while maintaining a high passenger flow during boarding and alighting due to the optimal layout of door openings.
·         The use of technological solutions allows the tram to operate on routes with turning radii of 14 meters.
·         The possibility of operating without reconstruction of boarding platforms due to the length of the carriage.
·         An ideal model for main routes. The carriage design implies movement at increased speeds (up to 90 km/h).
·         Possible implementation in a two-cabin version (shuttle version).
·         An option for extended autonomous operation (up to 30 km) is available.

Attention to detail

Ergonomic handrails, comfortable seats and their optimal layout, illumination of door opening buttons and the passenger salon in the dark, external contour lighting, futuristic design, balance of materials, smooth ride, charging ports for gadgets, individual design of tram cars (branding for urban purposes) - all this makes the 71-639 "Castor" tram an ornament of the most demanding city anywhere in the world.

"We specifically made the tram 20% below market budget to make it accessible for cities, which should influence the promotion of the tram and ease the financial burden for cities," said Roman Novikov, General Director of UKCP.
