On June 20, Lipetsk hosted the launch of low-floor trams manufactured by Ust-Katavsky Car-building Plant (UKCP, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) with passengers. The trams went along the updated tracks from the tram depot to the 21st microdistrict.
"Our partners and customers can always be sure that they will receive the order on time, in accordance with their requirements and wishes," said Roman Novikov, General Director of UKCP. He added: "Each such project is a complex, multifactorial process that requires well—coordinated and organized work, production facilities and engineering expertise. We are working to continue to meet the highest expectations and continuously improve both the production processes and the final product — a modern tramcar."
Lipetsk became one of the first cities participating in the federal program for the modernization of electric transport, where passenger transportation began along the reconstructed tracks. This was announced by Alexey Zotov, General Director of Movista Group. According to him, thanks to "modern low-floor trams, which can be easily used by both retirees and parents with strollers; almost silent rails, nice stops, the comfort level has increased significantly."
It is expected that by 2025, 40.8 km of tram tracks will be reconstructed in the city, another 5.2 km will be built, depots will be repaired, contact networks will be modernized, and rolling stock will be updated. 46 low-floor single-section UKCP trams, which the city received back in April 2024, will enter the routes.
Each vehicle is equipped with several video cameras, two media panels, validators for cashless payment, Wi-Fi and 8 USB charging points. For the convenience of passengers, electronic route designators, auto-information systems and climate control also work in trams. Safety is ensured by driver control and maneuvering assistance systems, as well as an improved suspension design for rail brakes.
